One big, beautiful electronics shop...

Hong Kong harbour viewed from the Intercontinental
I've got to admit it - I simply love electronic gadgetry. Digital camera equipment, hard drives, bluetooth keyboards... I love it all. It may sound geekish but really it's the promise of wonderful photographs, novels written or music recorded using these devices that fills me with glorious anticipation. Unfortunately, more often than not, they lie in a corner, their promise pitifully unfulfilled. Nevertheless, gadgets continue to thrill me so you'll understand why I loved Hong Kong. It was Chinese New Year and I'd taken a harbour view room in the Intercontinental on Salilsbury Road in Hong Kong. As the evening progressed the entire harbour was cleared of boats. Then three large barges were moored practically under my window. I cracked open a bottle of Champers, dragged the sofa under the window and sat back to marvel at the most fabulous firework display I had ever seen. Afterwards I took the champagne to the rooftop jacuzzi, which is split into three sections - cold, warm and hot, to see the boats return like a home-coming armada.
With such a fab start I couldn't go wrong. I spent the next few days shopping up a storm and left Hong Kong with the certain knowledge that I would be back.

do you swear by the XL1? I never quite got down to loving it much, but thats a personal thing. Heard that the XL2 is better. I have been using the Sony Hdv often though. Not bad, but not great with low light.

Bought a Canon Powershot A-700 from Nathan Rd Kowloon and realised too late there were dead pixels on the back lcd screen and no int'l warranty. Its luck of the draw with Nathan Rd. Whatever you do don't go back to Rainbow Digital City near Granville Rd !
