Formerly known as the spice islands, the Moluccas is where my family originated from. Although I have only been there once in my entire life when I was only 7yrs of age (for a 4 day visit) I still have a vivid mental picture of how beautiful the place was. Despite having been to many places around the world, the Moluccas remain close to my heart and will always be. Ambon, located in Ambon island, is the provincial capital of the Moluccas. They are now working to transform Ambon airport (Pattimura airport) to an international airport. Meanwhile, there're frequent daily flights from & into Jakarta. I could say nothing more about the Moluccas except it is a paradise on earth. Beautiful nature, very rich of sea resources, multi-cultural & notably very compassionate people. The region is also rich of music, tribal dances and hybrid culture. Unlike most of tropical islands around this globe, the islands of the Moluccas are comparatively free of tourists. Its great attraction for present-day visitors is its sea gardens and beaches with coral reefs. The sea surrounding the Moluccas, the Banda sea, is believed to be one of the deepest sea on earth (6,5 km deep). it's very intriguing, considering that the sole means of transportation between the islands are boats. More often they're not of sophisticated ones. Yes ! You've got to have the 'stomach' to want to travell around those islands ; ) Very brave people ! Look at the picture of the' Pintu Kota Beach' above ! Isn't it beautiful ? It seems surreal to me. But no ! it's real ! A friend of mine who lives in Ambon took this picture.
(to be continued)
This is perhaps one of hundreds of different dances. Performed by youths of Mamala.
