...excavated for the first time in 1839 (this makes me wonder when it was excavated for the second time??), dates back to the Ggantija phase (ca. 3600 - 3200 B.C.). The temple is located on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of
Filfla, approximately 2 km southwest of the village of Qrendi. Just 500 m away from Hagar Qim, further towards the cliff's edge, you'll come across another remarkable temple site called
Mnajdra. The surrounding area, which is typical of Mediterranean garigue and spectacular in its starkness and isolation, has been designated a Heritage Park.
An assortment of interesting items have been unearthed at Hagar Qim, notably a decorated pillar altar, two table altars, and a few of the "
Fat Lady Statues" that are on display at the National Museum of Archeology in
Valletta.
Hagar Qim itself consists of a single temple unit and, if it were for sale, it would therefore be charged a unit price.
