Here we are with our tourist friends that we met at this hotel. The hotel's name was Eddy (as in ready, Eddy) but none of our friends was called Eddy. They were the Martin Family from Wiesbaden. My dad took this photo and that's why he's not shown in it. Meet us from left to right: Petra (Martin), Gabi (Vogel), Mrs. Martin (yes, she did have a first name, but I don't remember, it may have been Inge like my mom's, although my mom's real name never was Inge), Inge (Vogel), Helmut Martin.
A funny incident happened during this vacation: my sister
Regine and her husband used to live near
Split,
Croatia back then. My sister had a friend in Udine, Italy, and while they were visiting her and her family, my sister got this crazy, spontaneous idea into hear head to surprise us in Lido on their way back to Croatia. She didn't remember the name of the hotel we were staying in but was confident that she would be able to find us on the beach among zillions of tourists! My brother-in-law thought this idea was so crazy that at first he didn't want to drive the extra kilometers from Udine to Lido but ended up doing it, anyway. And what do you know? No sooner had they arrived on the beach, my sister spotted me in my orange bikini. I first thought I saw a fatamorgana and not my sister because it wouldn't have occurred to me in my wildest dreams that I'd run into her and her husband on the beach in Lido. I first didn't even recognize her because of her new hairstyle, but when I offered her a seat on my beach chair, her new hairstyle got stuck on the umbrella while she was sitting down - and it stayed there, too. Too my great amusement I then realized that it wasn't a new hairstyle but just a wig - she didn't have time to do her hair before they left Udine early that morning.
