Yes, you guessed it! Kfar Vradim means "Village of Roses". What a beautiful name it is! Does such a dreamy place really exist? I can assure that it does - because I have been there myself and seen it with my own eyes. It is located in the gorgeous Galilee, not far from
Nahariya,
Karmiel, and the
Lebanese border. It was founded in September 1984 (yes, you read that correctly: 1984, not 1884) by
Stef Wertheimer, a very cool dude. He happens to be one of the richest guys in Israel, but that doesn't bother me because money isn't everything.
I feel very fortunate that I had the chance to visit Kfar Vradim although only briefly, but that's better than not at all. I went on a tree-planting tour with the "Association of German-speaking Jews in Israel" in the Galil and one of the participants was from Kfar Vradim. Since we were in the vicinity, she convinced the bus driver to give us a quick tour of the "Village of Roses". Not only does it have a lovely name, it is a lovely place indeed.
P.S. Do not confuse the "Village of Roses", Israel with
Roseville, Australia or
Roseville, California.
