...is located in the central Negev, about 80 km south of Beer Sheva. Its name is an older version of the modern Hebrew "Mitz Rimonim" meaning "Pomegranate Juice". Mitzpe Ramon started with one or two buildings in 1953 and because of the town's remote location it only has a population of about 5.000 plus/minus, which makes it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of larger cities. The proximity to the desert and the marvelous Ramon Crater are two additional bonus points this small town has to offer, which makes three bonus points all together, if my calculation is correct, and that's not bad considering that some towns have none or even negative bonus points. |

| | I stayed there... ...for a week-end, mostly not in town but in the desert. I visited with someone, who doesn't like to be photographed, but since my camera likes to photograph, it didn't stop me. In contrast to my companion, the town of Mitzpe Ramon apparently had no objections to be photographed, at least I didn't hear any protest. |
What else is left to say... ... about Mitzpe Ramon? It is located 900 m above sea level and has a comfortably dry climate, which makes the hot summers bearable. The winters can be quite chilly so I heard, but since I didn't visit there in the winter, I can't say anything about them unless I'd make it up - something I never do on my travel pages. | | | And an Additional View of Mitzpe Ramon |

themajor Thu Jun 26, 2008 09:32 UTC Informative and humorously intelligent as ever. Mizpe Ramon sounds delightful although possibly not ideal if you're allergic to humus. 'It's best to avoid the desert during the summer months and in the middle of the day.' Yes, I shall treasure that one... | scottishvisitor Fri May 30, 2008 22:12 UTC Hello Featured Member - Evaporating Water Falls & Ibix road crossing - well you were lucky to see both! | yumyum Mon Apr 7, 2008 20:34 UTC Beautiful pictures!
