Fussen is a very small, traditional German town. Located on the lower tip of the Romantic Road it may be your first or last stop. Fussen is very pictureesque with its various colored houses, cobblestone streets, and its backdrop of the lake and the Alps. What has put Fussen on the map is Germany's most photographed landmark 3 miles outside: Neuschwanstein Castle. Big buses drop off tourists outside the castle, and after the visit, tourists flood neighboring Fussen (especially in the summer). I wouldn't say it is as crowded as Rothenburg but it makes close competition. However, like all these touristy towns, the backstreets provide a more intimate look, and perhaps you might even have a whole little slice to yourself. |
