Side reminds me of the Turkey I first knew.
It maintains its village feel despite the influx of tourists.

Ours was just a day visit; we wanted to look round Side for plans for a future holiday.
We liked what we saw, some old ruins to clamber round, plenty of shops and restaurants and some great sunsets.

A lot of people we met stated that they had been to Side and would never return. In fact one couple said after their first visit 12 years ago, that they were never going to return to Turkey, however they took the chance and came back but not to Side.
The problems seem to be at the restaurants, they were getting nothing but hassle from the waiters as they walked past.
It seems that the Turkish government banned waiters from touting for business outside of the restaurants after complaints from tourists.
I am led to believe that if caught, the waiters face prosecution; however the waiters in Side seem to disregard the law.

It is fair to say that we did not get any hassle while we were there
