Guvercinlik

Beautiful Sunsets

The start of our odyessy

Guvercinlik was our very first destination abroad.
We did not know what to expect, we were not even sure what to do.
It might seem strange to seasoned travellers, but if you have never travelled before, that first holiday is the start of a large learning curve.
Wary and sometimes even worried, we set about this holiday like a pair of first time explorers.
Gently easing our way along, trying this, trying that.
In the end, we just went with the flow and let Turkey swallow us up.

Strangers on the Shore

Guvercinlik is no longer featured in any of the UK travel brochures anymore, which is a real shame.
When we first came here it was a little village with half a dozen hotels and restaurants, it has now become a little town with its own Mosque.
Bustling and full of life, we still find this little town beautiful.
It is not geared up for a lot of tourist; we would recommend the independent traveller to give Guvercinlik a try one year.

Getting into the swing of things now

Most of the tourists found in Guvercinlik are Turkish.
The Turkish Forestry Commission also has a holiday resort here for its workers.
Found on the road between Bodrum and the inland market town of Milas, Guvercinlik's first impression on you, is not that of a holiday destination.
Don't be put off by what you first see, the first thing you will see when get there is, well nothing, when you make your way down to the sea via the little dirt tracks, you begin to wonder, what have I let myself in for.
Take heart, it is a lovely little place; the people are wonderful and very friendly.
You will have the chance here of a real Turkish holiday, soak it up and chill out.

Thanks for the thumbs up on my Istanbul page. About women doing the work while the men sit around - I think that is true in general....LOL

Sorry about your first experience with raki. The hotel seems lovely. I hope you are enjoying a cold Efes and a hot borek right now.
