Argentinian barbecue
But if you're looking for a place frequented by locals and where you can see the "backstage" then you should definitely have this place in mind! I suggest you sit at the bar and not at a table, so that you can eat while you see the Parrillero (barbecue guy) working on the grill right next to you.
The ambiance hasn't been touched since the 70s, so that gives it a special feel. The food used to be better, but it's definitely a must if you want to see the real thing. Trust me!
Favorite Dish: You should order barbecue, just choose any cut that appeals to you. The most typical is "tira de asado", this is a beef rack of ribs. If you don't want your meat with bones, then "vacio" or "bife de lomo" are good options. If you want to "go local" then order fries or a salad as a side order (ensalada completa is a classic), and for dessert the classic "Flan con dulce de leche" :)

At night there are low lights
What makes me like this place so much is the decoration, the quiet music, the fact that it may be full but never crowded, the low lights... and still, a trendy place. Plus: very good prices!
I always orden a tray with different dishes to try and share with my friends, none of them contain meat.
Favorite Dish: I don't remember the name but they had this Indian tea with milk and cinnamon that I loved!
For dessert: "Simplemente Maravillosas", translation: "Simply Marvellous", these are sweet balls made with some sort of milky thing.

Bistrot Tokio
Many people ask in the forum about places to eat sushi in Buenos Aires. There are the classics like Dashi or Sushi Club, but this one, despite its not being famous, is my favourite, along with the one in the Japanese Gardens.
When a Japanese wants to get a taste of his motherland, this is where he goes! There are not many tables, perhaps 8 or 10 but the service is very friendly, although it can be a bit slow as everything is prepared as ordered. The sushi is really good, as well as the tempura and other typical dishes.
The decoration is minimalist and the lights are soft.
A good place to go with few friends (no loud people here please!) or with your partner.
Favorite Dish: Apart from the sushi and the tempura, do try the home-made ice creams! My favourite is the sesame seeds one, mmmhhhh.... reaaaaally good. Then there's green tea and ginger flavours too.
Address: Virrey del Pino 2551 First Floor, Belgrano

Directions: You can get there with the subway if you're in downtown. Get off at Jose Hernandez Station (line D)
OH! Don't forget that this is on the first floor! So just go up the stairs and you'll see it, on the left.

Anything that you order here is really good. I remember the black hake as one of my favourite dishes (merluza negra), it comes along with a boiled potato.
The dishes in general are either Argentine (although there's no barbecue here) or Spanish, or
a mixture of both.
I would describe the ambiance as a classic Buenos Aires restaurant: the decoration and the waiters! :)
Address: Monroe 2444, Belgrano.

At Cielito Lindo with my siter and friends
If you're craving for some burritos, nachos or tortillas, then try this place! The ambiance is 100% Mexican, with ornaments brought from that country in every single place.
Make sure you make a reservation beforehand cos if not there's little chance you will get a table, believe me.
Favorite Dish: I loved the desserts! Specially Torrejas. I had wanted to try these since I read the book "Como agua para chocolate". Mmmhhh... as I ate them I could picture that chapter from the book in my mind!

What a GREAT experience! The first time I was there was with a Korean girl and a woman who'd lived in Japan for 10 years. Both agreed the place was 100% Japanese and that the food was awesome! I had the exact same feeling. It's not so sushi oriented as others and the dishes are really well prepard and sooo fresh! Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed!
Open from Monday to Saturday.

La Cocina de Peloncha
This small restaurant has only 7 tables and is located at the front of Peloncha's house, in a quiet area of Belgrano neighbourhood. The atmosphere is kind of sophisticated, well... at least the people who eat there think they are so, and learned as well...(hi hi hi!) Anyway, it's a very good option if you're looking for peace and good (not excellent) food and wines.
ALWAYS BOOK IN ADVANCE! CREDIDT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
Favorite Dish: I loved the skate fish in a butter sauce, but they are not always able to get that fish in the market, so be warned. The lamb was really well done, but its sauce had lumps... :(
The dessert "blanc et rouge" was quite good: almond mousse with berries. The mango mousse with passion fruit sauce was excellent.

Spettus, in Puerto Madero
Most of "All you can eat" places don't serve good quality food, right? Now this one does.
There is a choice of cold and hot dishes for people to help themselves as many times as they want of course, and then the waiters go from table to table offering different cuts of meats.
Dessert is included in the price, but not the drinks.

Cabaña Las Lilas
Hmm... where to start... OK, the beef will never dissapoint you, that's true, but hey! we live in Beef Paradise, so why would you spend a minimum of 70 pesos (23 dollars) just for a coke, a piece of meat and a cover charge of 15 pesos? It's sooo not worth it. You can get extraordinary beef anywhere else and pay half as much, including a side order, a dessert and wine!
This place was created for tourists exclusively, as the prices are a total rip off. If you come to think of it, the prices are in dollars, not in pesos... 40 pesos for just a piece of grilled chicken??? Sure! that's 13 dollars. And one more thing, this place DOES NOT reflect what beef is for us at all! A gaucho would scream blue murder if he saw it!

Brasserie Petanque at night
I fell head over heels with this place! It's really nice at night due to the low lights. There are set menues at midday, which make it much cheaper than dining. They welcome you with some kir and good bread and the dishes are perfect! Service though, might not always be that good. Still, a must if you want a quiet and why not, a romantic one!
