located some 45 minutes on a rough track out of copan village, you will come across the beautiful hot springs known as 'agua caliente'. when we were there we were the only 'tourists' as such, and a few other locals and children were there too. the hot springs were soooo beautiful, located next to a river set in the jungle. we had a bbq dinner cooked by a local for US$5, and we bought along beer too. laying in the warm water, floating, drinking beer, having fun. it was a great time!
on the way back, anna wonka felt the full effects of drinking too much beer on a rough bouncy dirt track. anna wonka had her head hanging over the tailgate of the pickup, spewing her guts out. not the prettiest sight! even worse was seeing the stray goats and chickens running to her spew to pick up whatever food scraps had come out. that was gross.
but i digress, back to the tip people! the hot springs are well worth it, and definitely good to go there for sunset and the early evening. from copan village, just tell a local in a pickup you want to go to 'aqua caliente'. they will know it.

mircaskirca Wed May 21, 2008 18:48 UTC This is a very touching page Anna! I recalled some beautiful moments I spent with those innocent children, the little angels, that I met on my trips. Though a very sad experience, you realize how much you learned from them. | nepalgoods Sat Mar 1, 2008 09:40 UTC Amazing colors! Great page! | Jim_Eliason Wed Feb 20, 2008 02:25 UTC Great tips Anna! I am headed here next month. Am I mistaken or was that a Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtle Sculpture in your main ruins tips?? hahahaha | toonsarah Sat Nov 10, 2007 19:33 UTC Fantastic page Anna. VT is at its best when people share such personal experiences - things you can't read about in standard guides. And you also bring the ruins to life so well - I would love to come here. |
