"Asia's World City - city of contrasts" Hong Kong by Vita500
Hong Kong Travel Guide: 10,195 reviews and 19,232 photos
After having spent two years in this amazing city, became acquainted with its excellent cuisine, made some good friends and spent most weekends exploring the city's fantastic places on and off the beaten path, Hong Kong has truly become my second home.
Did you know... ?
Hong Kong has much more to offer than crowded streets, night markets, bad air and red taxis. In fact, Hong Kong is one of the greenest cosmopolitan cities existing! Hard to believe but true!
The reason: Hong Kong does not only include Kowloon, Wanchai or Central but also the spacious New Territories in the North and more than 200 islands. Especially Lantau Island (beside its Big Buddha) has lots of great hiking trails, where you can walk for hours without meeting anybody.
Another impressing fact is that Hong Kong's face is changing every day. It's amazing how much can change within a single year. Whenever I come back for a visit of my friends and former colleagues, I find a few new buildings, built on newly reclaimed land and less harbour in between the Kowloon peninsula and HK Island. The skyline is thus changing every year and it's well worth to come back frequently to this amazing, ever-changing place.
Check out the below facts and Travel Tips for more details on this spell binding and intriguing city...!
1. Kowloon (from TST along Nathan Road towards Mong Kok)
2. Hong Kong Island's North (Central, Wanchai, Causeway Bay, ...)
3. Hong Kong Island's South (Repulse Bay, Stanley, Shek O)
4. New Territories (Shatin, Gold Coast, Cycling around Plover Clove Reservoir)
5. The Islands (Lantau, Lamma)
Well, basically everything... but since this would require more time than most people have, check out the respective Travel Tips and arrange your schedule according to what you like to see!!!

NEWS
Having just come back from another visit to Hong Kong, I strongly recommend to take a ride on the newly opened cable car (Ngong Ping 360) from Tung Chung to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island. The ride takes around 25 minutes (!) and offers stunning views across the island and Chek Lap Kok airport. Simply amazing!!!
Also, check out my new Travelogue - Hiking trip in Sai Kung for some more impressions on HK's green side as well as my new Travelogue - Ngong Ping 360 - a ride with the new cable car for impressions on this new must-see attraction!!!
Happy cruising...!!!

In contrast to its mother country China, Hong Kong has a free market economy, mainly depending on international trade.
Due to the booming and continuesly opening Chinese market, especially Shanghai is gradually taking away Hong Kong's leading position as the entrance door to China and Asia in general.
Nevertheless, HK still has a vital function and a superior role in the region's development.
- Pros:From shopping malls and crowds to tranquility and nature
- Cons:Except for the summer humidity, pollution and declining English skills... none!
- In a nutshell:The place to be...!!!

Hey Robert, habe gerade mal wieder durch deine HK-Liste geschaut und mir einen Ast gelacht... Wie geht's dir so? Was macht Stuttgart?
Hello, Robert! Thanks for your amazing page about that splendid destination.....
Hello again Robert, this hike looks amazing (much better than going shopping). Do you know an agency that organizes hikes? I am traveling on my own so I would like to go with a group. Thanks!
Excellent and informative page, and I really like your travelogues, especially about the Ngong Ping cable car. Thanks. Jim
You're right Robert, I'm now living in HK - got something to add on to your list - You know you've lived in HK for too long when you take out your PSP automatically each time you enter a train/bus.
I enjoyed reading your 60 signs except for item 38. Just feel sad about people's idea of a brainy Filipina working so hard just to earn extra and wasting her brains and opted to iron socks instead. I am proud to be a Filipina though. Happy birthday!
Thank you for all your replies. you are really such a help. goodluck.
its a great info about Hong Kong. I'll definately use it for my Hong Kong trip next week.
What a great introduction to transportation in HK.....you've covered them all. And thanks for answering my question on the forum.
love the 60-item tidbits about hong kong! was laughing, too, when i read item number 52! we (filipinas) just love to smile. :)
