MERCURE LUXOR and other Luxor, Egypt Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

booked in for a four night stay with a Nile view room in late Jan 2007.

The hotel room was grotty and not very clean and stinked of cigarette smoke. I immediatey checked out and stayed at the sheraton which was better quality and cheaper!

I will say I have been to this hotel 5 years before and I found it to be excellent for a budget hotel. To be fair this time was in a different annex of the hotel so I cant say for sure if the hotel quality had dropped that much.

Very dissapointed considering its central location, which in my opinion is its one remaining asset.

I found this to be an excellent hotel. We booked into this hotel after checking out of the Mercure. Unlike the Movenpick they didnt try to rip us off with crazy fees.

We arrived 1:30am after a flight from Cairo and the staff were very helpful. The main hotel was booked out but we could only get one of the annex rooms, in its own area by rhe Italian embassy. I should add that we went to Egypt as independent travellers.

I found the hotel to be good value with good food. Its not luxury but ive been to luxor three time and its been the best hotel so far. Its clean, cheap and good value. I would rate our stay 4.5/5.

A minor point is that its not central and if you want to go for example to Luxor Temple its about a 10-15min drive. This is minor and all relative as if your are willing to haggle the taxis are cheap. The hotel does have a shuttle to the centre and luxor museum/temple etc which is free. Which we used a few times. Bit of advice make sure you leave early as you might not get one as there are limited space and a lot of demand in the morning.

Unique Qualities: Great pool, loungers and view. Private and good value
