We went on a whirlwind tour of Scotland and Wales… went from London through and up to Northern Scotland, back to West England, then to North Wales, back to London and then to South Wales…a lot of driving to say the least – all in 9 days…. we needed a holiday from our holiday!

We went to Stirling via Edinburgh…..a lovely old town, went to their historic castle (where they hope the Scotland parliament will sit again), The Wallace Memorial (a huuuge climb up a hill – thank goodness for the strategically placed benches for resting every 30m or so, then when one gets to the top of the hill, a further couple hundred steps UP the actual memorial!) and…and this was an added bonus….a Scottish Highland Game’s Day. Lots and lots of Scottish dancing and bagpipes! Never seen so many kilts in one day.

Then onto Loch Lomond (where we stayed at a four star hotel right on the bank of the loch – and unfortunately a young boy went missing and his body was found by the loch a day later – very sad to see his parents and the search party going out onto the loch – BBC Scotland was filming the goings-on too – not a good part of our holiday), Inverness, Loch Ness, Moffat (with the most stunning flower gardens!), Chester, Conwy (where we bought our official first gallery painting – is an oil painting of the harbour of Conwy, has a heavy rustic frame on it and has pride of place next to our fireplace at home), Carnoughy …where we stayed at B&Bs or hotels and camped for two nights. Unlike SA camp sites…..you don’t have to bring your own bog roll! We camped at a stunning site in a forest 12 miles west of Loch Ness….so, for our friends whom we know LOVE camping…if you are ever in the area wanting to camp, let us know and we will give you their details! There was a river flowing through it, where Lance was just itching to fish…but hadn’t a permit or his fishing gear with him, so couldn’t.

We did the awesome but somewhat eerie cruise of Loch Ness (a must-see!) and visited about 8 castles throughout Scotland and Wales…they are wonderful to visit and keep one fit! Took plenty of photos….. about 430. Gulp. Thank goodness for digital cameras!

Lovely start! I WILL come back to this site, especially since I have enjoyed Scotland so much on my last trip!
