Corfe Castle Travel Guide: 57 reviews and 199 photos

As you enter Corfe, the castle ruins come into view, overlooking the town, on the hill. The hill it is on is very steep and one can imagine how, in war times, how very helpful this sheer hill side was in guarding the castle! The soldiers in the castle had a huge advantage over their enemies!

We would love to come back here and explore more, stay for a weekend... the village houses and shops are all built from the local stone and has a lovely atmosphere!

And when you find out how much history this little village and castle ruin have, it shows just how important a role this village and castle played through the centuries in England.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Easily accessible to get everywhere
  • Cons:None come to mind... except that it's too far from London to visit often!
  • In a nutshell:Typical English village :)

Yes, it's a very evocative ruin. Next time you're in the area also consider Worth Matravers. Cheers

Jen, lovely little page. Although I have travelled a lot in England, I must admit that I have never heard of Corfe. Nevertheless, I might have seen a photo of the castle in one of my guidebooks.

Its certainly has a certain appeal when its misty as it was when you were there as can see by your lovely castle photos! Been twice but sun was shining both times (one of those amazing summers that summer lasted longer than the longest day!)

Still smiling about your packing tip. What a haunting, wonderful atmosphere for the ruins of the castle. Love the stone houses. Another winning combination of your narratives and lovely photos.

Very atmospheric photos. My primary school in London had a picture of Corfe Castle on its badge (tell you why when I see you - long story!) but I've never been there. Looks like I should!
