Putney is a busy, 'young' town in Greater London... fast-paced and offering loads of fun! We live not far from it and go there for a good night out, they have plenty of fine restaurants, and a lovely walk by the River Thames.

There are two lovely churches by the bridge, one on either side of Putney Bridge.

Loads of South Africans flock here, and it feels like one is in South Africa when walking around here!

South Africans are spoilt in that we have really good malls, restaurants etc. in South Africa, and here in Putney you get that too. Maybe that's why they have flocked here? I dont know. It's not why we are close by (being South African ourselves), we settled in the South West of London for other reasons.

It is definately worth a visit though, you'll get some good shopping done... and if you arrive on the day they have the French or Italian market... you will be in heaven ;)

There is no destination town on VT for Putney, so I am writing about it on a Putney Heath page, although strictly speaking, Putney Heath is up the hill from Putney itself. Should VT add Putney to their list of destinations, I will move this page.

Pros and Cons

Pros:It has everything you need and the river Thames!
Cons:VERY busy, especially on the weekends
In a nutshell:Very busy, young and funky, with tradition and old intermingled

The Fulham garden is beautiful and that is wonderful about the restoration of Fulham Palace. These wonderful historic buildings need to be maintain for future generations. Your wonderful restaurant tips just made me hungry:)
