Restaurant Name: Cave di S. Ignazio da Sabatino
This is a stylish yet simple restaurant in one of Rome's prettiest little piazzas. We were more than happy to follow the recommendations of the waiter, who knew the menu backwards. He took our orders without writing anything down too, but we did get what we ordered, so that was fine. We were sitting in an enclosed area, with a hedge around us, so werent gaped at by the tourists walking past, which made it more intimate and enjoyable.
Favorite Dish: The house wine - the Rosso Novello, was excellent. They have an excellent selection of hot and cold antipasti (including a whole, huge ricotta from which you are invited to help yourself) and simple but reliable pasta and meat dishes to follow.

We were looking for a restaurant off the main tourist roads, that also had seating for allof us this time of night. Having a baby with us meant earlier meals than the time people usually eat, but this suited us as it meant we found space at restaurants easier, and then had time to walk it all off! haha Our time here was fine, albeit the service being VERY slow. The restaurant wasnt crowded either at this time, so I am not sure where the waiter was half the time. The table next to us had 4 adults (sounded like Canadians). Three of them got their meals in good time, and the fourth - who'd ordered a steak, got his only 45 minutes aftre they had finished their meals! But he never saw it, as, having waited so long for his meal, he got up and left his friends, saying he'd meet them later at their hotel. We ended up chatting to them as it was so clear what had happened. They were so shocked with the service, and then, to top it off... when they did FINALLY bring this poor man's meal out, they were so put-out and cross that he wasn't there and hadn't waited for it! To be honest, I would not have waited half the time he waited for the meal.
Favorite Dish: Our food was delicious - the pizzas super! We all felt like pizza and ordered different ones. The wine was okay, nothing special, but then we had ordered inexpensive wine, so cannot complain! The atmosphere was nice, the musicians playing for most of the time we sat there.

Isn't it strange, that no matter how many different restaurants one goes to, there is still nothing better than a good home cooked meAl :) Well, that's the way we feel, anyway! We would go down to the local Spar (about an 8 minute walk away, right next to the Pantheon), and stock up on food, whether fruit, cheeses, vegetables, breads (no pastas as we were having enough of those eating out! haha), and just make our own food. We aren't big breakfast eaters anyway, so would just have toast or a light cereal to start the day off. Lunches and dinners were generally eaten out on the road, or on a hot day (especially if baby needed a sleep) we would come home, and then would cook at home. One of the things I love about cooking in another country is using different ingredients and foods, even when you cant understand the language on it :)
Favorite Dish: Everything, but of course! ;)
