Things To Do: Suspension bridge at Storms River mouth
  • Tip Rating:
  • The suspension bridge is probably the most popular thing to see here.

After about a 45 minute walk from the restaurant, along some boarded walks, you reach the bridge.

It is an easy walk, amongst dense foliage and gorgeous scenery.

We stopped quite a few times walking along here, you just have to, it is so beautiful!

It is thin and sways easily, however it is actually really strong. It is not something I would bounce up and down on though!

We made sure we went on it when no-one else did... especially as if you cross paths it is quite close for comfirt out there, above the river mouth, with all those sharks swimming beneath you.

Things To Do: Suspension Bridge ~ the facts!
  • Tip Rating:
  • This lovely bridge was built in 1969 by Jackie De Vos.

It is 77 metres long and 7 metres high.

Interestingly enough, if you are wondering re how strong it is, they have calculated that it would only break if you had 3,600 people on it at the same time!

Now that is really reassuring, but I doubt they'd even get that many people on it... so, if you are unsure of the safety of this swaying bridge, I hope your fears are allayed by this information!

The 45 minute walk to the bridge is called the Suspension Trail.

    Things To Do: Big Tree
  • Tip Rating:
  • In the Tsitsikamma forest is a huge tree called Big Tree.

It is 800 years old, and even though by some world standards it isnt that big, by South African standards it is really big!

You can enter via the main highway (N2), park your car and pay R5 to get into this protected area.

It is a really nice walk to get to the tree, with a boarded walkway, which makes walking really easy, no matter what footwear you are wearing!

I do not have a photo of this tree, this is a photo of the beautiful surrounding area

Things To Do: Otter Trail and Tsitsikamma Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • Two of South Africa's most popular hikes lie in this area.

The Otter Trail (41km/25 miles long) and the even longer Tsitsikamma Trail (60 km/37 miles long).

The first trail extends from Storm's River mouth (where the suspension bridge is), to Nature's Valley beach.

People from all over the world come here to cplete one of these two trails, we know a few people who have done it, said it was rough, but exhilerating and thoroughly enjoyable.

You go through stunning ravines, dense foliage, across streaming rivers, and get to see so much natural wildlife... little animals and birds. Unspoilt vegetation!

    What an experience :)

    Things To Do: Waterfall Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you arent feeling that adventurous or fit, try the Waterfall Trail!

It is basically the first day of the Otter Trail and you see some beautiful vegetation.

You also get to swim in the waterfall, so make sure you bring your swimming costume!

    Things To Do: The beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • This stretch of the coast is quite wild and rocky, but there are lovely little beaches dotted here and there.

At this park there is a brown sand beach just below the restaurant area.

I noticed some people sun tanning in the camp site or on the rocks too..as long as it's not too bumpy I guess it's fine.

I would personally choose to sun tan at the beach though :)

This beach is found at the start of the Suspension Bridge Trail.

When I went over that bridge I did not know about the sharks. It's a great place though isn't it?
