Do yourself a favour and learn to speak (at the very least!) a few lines in French prior to arriving in France. This will open up your conversation easier with the locals, and they really appreciate it when they see you are trying to speak French. It can help you alot when ordering food too! The first drink I ordered in French was a Beer Shandy, a 'Panache', and the first food was a pancake with one sugar 'Crepe - uno sucra'... It still makes me smile when I think of this :)

In the same little garden near Notre Dame, we had some lunch and noticed these 3 nuns eating theirs :) We find this photograph quite symbolic - how some people view religion.

Thanks for your very good pages and tips. No-smoking in public arrays (restaurants, transportation, ...) has improved a lot (new rule till 2008) and is now effective and not so ignored (money penalties)... So, should be better next time :) | Jeannette1 Sat Mar 22, 2008 03:13 UTC
Sounds like you had a good time in Paris, except for the hotel :-). I love that photo of the 3 nuns. I have one in the same style on my Venice page: 2 nuns on a vaporetto ! |
