Mentopyan and Mawar swimming.......
One of the major reasons for my travels, seeing and working with or for the glorious creatures of our planet... I think that animals are one of the most beautiful things ever created. Once you've made it into their hearts they'll remember you forever.
Everytime i go back to Kuala Gandah to see everyone (the locals and my friends) and my elephants (more friends) the elephants all remember me, and mawar takes my hand into her mouth and sucks on it like ive never been gone, mentopyan pushes me into getting her something as usual and Abot plays hide and seek just like always with her sqeeking just as adorable as always....

I try and travel as much as i can, but my means are limited. When i travel, i also try and do something more while im there. For example working on a conservation project in country, and this is something i intend to continue with in the future.
My most recent project is that of Marine Turtles. I worked on Pulau Gemia,next to Pulau Kapas, and spent my time patrolling beaches for turtles, in order to take the eggs into our hatchery prior to poachers taking them, and then taking care of the babies once they hatch.... i also spent time documenting all the marine life around the island. truly a beautiful creature...

I love taking pictures of things people wont have thought of before, and this is true of one of my favourite pictures of Kurt or Kurtus as i call him. He just came up to me and my camera as we were playing, and gave me a look, almost to say, hmm, a new play toy....

Well, after scouting around on fellow VT members homepages, ive have realised that the homepage introduces themselves... so here i go..
My name is Steph and i am 23 years old and currently at university (of Brighton, UK) studying for a degree in business and languages. Currently on a year abroad, on an exchange programme at the Fachhochschule in Mainz. Studying and living in another language is my biggest challenge yet. Thus far im on target for a 2:1 so im pretty impressed with myself right now :) so hopefully that'll stay like that :)
erm, family... got 2 brothers (andre and alex) a mother from germany, a step father from UK and a father from UK... and the rest of the family is dotted everywhere... some in new jersey usa... some in wales and some in germany and france so easy to see where i got my jet setting from...
my boyfriend Jeffrey has also got the travelling bug so we try and plan our trips a lot.
I have a love for all things living and i find it very fullfilling finding myself elbow deep of animals, no matter how dangerous if i know that it will help... (hense how i became mother to many many babies through my many projects) Animals also trust me very easily so i think thats helped grow my love of them. Usually after a few minutes around me they're licking me all over or purring on my lap.....which is fab!!
I also love a challenge, sitting on a beach all day, bores me if i do it for more than a few days, and therefor activly seek out something new to try...whether a new food, jungle exploration (my friend Razali is ur guy!!) or just getting plain dirty!
Taking pictures is another love, taking a snapshot in time of something which you know will perhaps never look the same again... and then creating hundreds of memories from then....

My Travels....
Well it all started for me in September 2003 when i decided that i would leave the UK and go exploring. Packed the bag and off i went. Heres my itenery.
September 2003 :Fly to malaysia, (KL) and promtly go on Jungle survival Course
September - December 2003 : Volunteering - kuala gandah elephant sanctuary, lanchang, malaysia
November 2003 : Short trip to singapour for visa renewal.
December 2003 - February 2004 : Trip to Langkawi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) & Krabi (Thailand)
February 2004 - May 2004 : Volunteer - Melaka Zoo (Malaysia)
May 2004 : Pankor Island, Cameron Highlands, Kota Bharu. (Malaysia) Koh Samui (Thailand)
June 2004 : Ko Phangan, Bangkok, Surat Thani.
July 2004 : Chiang Mai (Thailand), Siem Reap *Angkor Wat*, Sihanoukville (Cambodia), Ho Chi Minh, Hoi An, Hanoi (Vietnam), Vientiane (Loas)
August 2004 : Surat Thani, Ayutthaya, (thailand) and flight back to UK.
February 2005: Skiing holiday in Les Arc's, France.
April 2005 : Brief break to Aberystwyth, Wales.
June 16th - July 2nd 2005: Briefly in Bangkok, before going to Koh Samui, down to langkawi (malaysia), kuala gandah and melacca zoo and lastly jungle again helping my friend Raz.
July 3rd - 30th September 2005 : Pulau Gemia (turtle conservation)
November 2005 : Girly holiday to Alicante, Spain
Feb 2006 : Short trip to Orlando Florida
March 2006: fly by trip to LA, Boston, Philladelphia
March 2006 : Philadelphia
April 2006 : Orlando, Florida
June 2006 : Perth & Surfers Paradise, Australia
August 2007 : Ede Wageningen & Amsterdam, Holland
September 2007 : MOVED to Mainz, Germany
November 2007 : Prague, Czech Republic (Weekend away) & Bonn day trip
December 2007 : Stuttgart day trip
December 2007 - Jan 2008 : Cornwall & Milton Keynes, UK (Home to see the relatives)
February 2008 : Köln Day trip (For karnival), Innesbruck, Austria (Skiing) and Barcelona, Spain (semester break holiday)
