A visit to the edge of the world A friend took me to Ocrcoke Island and we drove on the beach as far as the inlet.I love end of the road places and the road here ended several miles back.Using the ferry and 4 wheel drive we reached the physical limits of the east coast . Eventually,at low tide, we drove out onto some sandspits at the tip of the island .It was a raw wild place and we had it all to ourselves for the afternoon. Not even another set of tire tracks since the last high tide. The beach was pristine, filled with shells and clumps of seaweed blown in from the gulfstream just offshore.Nothing like the smell of a fresh ocean breeze out of the south at 10 knots. Later on we drove on up the coast and waded out in the marsh . We picked our limit of two bushels of oysters to steam for dinner .An Ocracoke page is forthcoming.......... |
| | Belize 2007 Has come and gone-Merry xmas/BoxingDay .....The grand experiment of flying xmas day was declared a success! I was having a drink at the Palapa Bar by 2pm as predicted. 2 Weeks at the brotherinlawsCondo went by fast.We soaked up all the local culture we could.San pedro is quite the town. They have even paved some streets now! I'll be posting a revised Set of Belize pages in the next few weeks as I have the time. The way it will be set up now is this:
Belize page: My first trip to Belize .We rented a house of the grid south of San Pedro. We snorkeled Srk/Ray alley and hol Chan that week went to Caulker for a day then my wife and I drove to the Cayo District and saw Xunantunich/Cahal Pech and eventualy wound up in Tikal near flores guatemala.
Amergris Cay pages: This was my second trip to San Pedro. We got there during Hurricane Wilmas fury.Stewart Wegner came with us on that trip.Disdafiwichikin-nuf said
San Pedro pages: I'll post the current trips adventures here.New years on San Pedro was just a hoot. Our 3rd trip here was really special. We met some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. The expat community on Ambergris are an interesting lot.
We stayed at Reef Village this trip-Just north of the new Boca del rio bridge.Feel free to ask about there or any North end activities / restaurants
My friends who have tracked me down from my days at Wegner Metal Arts Should feel free to drop me a line here-Keep in touch everyone-I'd love to hear how everyones latest creations are taking shape.
And a Happy Boxing Day whatever that is!....-Oh I get get the gist of it and I'm all for it! |
Canal Cities Tour-Venice/Amsterdam 2007 Our last trip of any note( OK The Belize Xmas 2007 trip has happened since I wrote this) has been to Holland and Italy this past spring. We went to the Jam in the Dam Festival in Amsterdam and saw three great nights of music. The event was held at the Melkweg theater complex with Keller Williams, Galactic, Yonder Mountain String Band and Dark Star Orchestra playing on two stages till all hours of the night. Then Mrs X and I took a quick side trip to Pisa and Venice for a few days to unwind after all that Rockin and Rollin.I love Italy -My great grandparents were all born there so-It's in my blood.I'll revamp the Italian pages one of these days.
| | The Suburban Assault Vehicle The Hummers got nothing on me.Four and a half tons of fun..... I'm going to scan some of our Motorhome trip photos sooner or later. That Suburban Assault vehicle quote is from Dave Barry
15 years old but running sweet.....and paid for!-life is good!.....
We bought our baby on payments when we were in our 30's and have been across the usa and canada several times. Our longest trip being across Canada to Skagway Alaska-Returning Via the marine highway and then the coast of Oregon and washington with a tour of Utah parks on our way back east-11 weeks and 12,000 miles.Other trips have been to the the Black Hills and Wyoming and there have been a couple to Florida and New England. This is the spare room on wheels that makes possible living in a small home in the city.
These days the price of Gas is up and we have been flying about for our vacations. But it makes traveling with the dogs a pleasure and we need to spend some quality time with ol' Jasper for a change-so don't be surprised if you see me heading down the roadwith a dog sticking his head out the back soon |
Worth the price of the ticket We love the plane ride to San Pedro from Belize City.20 minutes in the air and a birds eye view of the reef and Cayes.I'm going to post some aerial photos on a travelogue on the San Pedro Page.
