"The Gingerbread City" Waxahachie by sswagner

Waxahachie Travel Guide: 110 reviews and 279 photos

Texas is full of charming historic towns which give the visitor a turn of the century feeling. Waxahachie is in the top tier of historic places in the state. It has a very large number of entries on the National Register of Historic Places. The term "gingerbread" refers to the architectural style of many of the city's homes. Fans of the Queen Anne, Victorian, and other styles will much appreciate a visit here. There are several historic districts, not just one. The centerpiece of the town is the courthouse, which is typically described as being one of the best in the state. Many other charming structures are nearby. The neighborhoods are a sight for sore eyes when you have left the typical cookiecutter neighborhoods that are increasingly common in modern times. This is certainly part of Texas at its best.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Very nice architecture and historical
  • Cons:Not too many. It seems far enough away from Dallas to avoid being swallowed up into the metroplex.
  • In a nutshell:Well worth a visit. Most people enjoy seeing this town.
