"Coast of Maine" Portland by sswagner

The Portland area is nice to visit because it is set on the scenic coast of Maine. Even though the city is the largest in the state, it does not feel too large and is a nice place to spend a little bit of time. The seafood, especially the lobster, is good. Once you have eaten a nice meal in town, you should explore the area around the coast. Maine has a nice rocky shoreline and several lighthouses up and down the state. Seeing the lighthouses gives one the sense of importance that they have to the New England coast. Portland offers easy access to the coastal areas of Southern Maine.

• Pros:Not too populated, laid back. In a scenic area of the country.
• Cons:Weather can be very bad. Beware of "Noreasters"
• In a nutshell:One of New England's nicest areas. Many attractions along the coast.
