Favorite Thing: San Francisco is a city of surprises. I find myself on a long layover in San Francisco International Airport and decide to head into the city for the day. As I approach the area around the wharf, I see a lot of people gathered. Inquiring what was going on, the answer was, "The Blue Angels are here!" Sure enough, in less than half an hour, there was a loud roar over the bay, and the blue and gold jets of the Blue Angels appeared to give us all a spectacular airshow. The flew over the bay and executed some stunning maneuvers. They also come over our heads too. If you are a fan of the Blue Angels or airshows in general. It would be good to see when they are going to be in town. This was a fantastic setting for an airshow. Since it happens up in the sky, there is enough room for everyone to see it. There is always something going on in San Francisco.
Fondest Memory: Surprises like this.

Favorite Thing: San Francisco takes its food very seriously. i would compare it to the way that the French treasure the art of cooking and preparing food. There are certainly high expectations here. A wealth of restuarants and eateries await the traveller to this city. Near Fishermans Wharf, your best bet is seafood. Chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl is a very tasty and popular choice. You also have dungeness crab when it is in season. Besides the seafood, there are restaurants of all tastes and ethnicities here. Chinatown has some of the best Chinese food you will ever find. A lot of the ingredients are imported. These restaurants are not your typical run of the mill chain restaurants found across America. In San Francisco, you will find the genuine article. Typically, eating out is not my biggest priority on a trip. However, San Francisco is certainly a good place to enjoy finding a good meal. For those of you who enjoy wine, don't forget that the Napa Valley is nearby. Thus, you will have a lot of choices when it comes to this. Whatever you do, don't stick to a fast food diet here. Trust me, there will be some good food that fits any budget.
Fondest Memory: Seafood and Chinese food (and sometimes a combination of the two)

Favorite Thing: Pier 39 is full of eateries and shops and is located in the center of Fishermans Wharf. There are some platforms just off the pier facing the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. On these platforms lie a bunch of sea lions. They always seem to get a lot of attention.

General Tips: Swensons Ice Cream

Favorite Thing: Do you like ice cream? Swensons is a chain that spread to many parts of America. It all started right here in San Francisco. Go to the corner of Union and Hyde to find the original Swensons. They have some of the best ice cream around. Although this corner location is small in size, some of the larger Swensons have a massive variety to choose from. I remember the "Earthquake", which was one dish of ice cream meant to be eaten by several people at once.
Fondest Memory: Getting a good workout on the hills of San Francisco and finding the ice cream.
