More Than a One Mountain Town

Looking into Zermatt
I will have to confess one thing about the trip to Switzerland. The number one hope was to see the Matterhorn. For months, somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered if the weather would be good enough to see this mountain. After all, there had been stories of people who stayed here for days in cloudy weather and never saw it. Obviously, Zermatt heavily promotes the mountain, and the Matterhorn is the main reason why people come here in the summer. With that said, the mountain really is worth seeing.

What many people do not realize is that this area is full of other peaks as well. Many of them are "horns", meaning they are rigidly shaped by the weather. The highest peaks in all of Switerland can be found here. Surrounded by massive glaciers, Mount Rosa towers into the sky. This is a paradise for hikers, climbers, and nature lovers. Some have said to stay away if the forecast is for cloudy weather. My philosophy was, book the trip and hope for the best. You never know what you will see until you come to this town.

The journey to Switzerland was exciting and will always be remembered. It must be said that the most fond memory was in fact gazing at the Matterhorn. This is the place to achieve that goal. Just be sure to look at those other peaks as well. They are everywhere. It is ideal to make full use of the cable cars and mountain trains in this region. It opens up a whole different world. For Zermatt, I do recommend an extended stay.
