For many people, Zurich is the entry and/or the departure point for a visit to Switzerland. Yet, it is often bypassed in favor of other places. I do believe that the city is underrated. The first impression was nice as we arrived into the huge train station and I could see the National Museum adjacent to it.
The setting is very nice. Zurich is on one end of a large lake named after the city. The Limmat River drains this lake and runs through the old town. This area is a pleasant place to take a walking tour of central Zurich. There are many cafes, churches, shops, and viewpoints in this area. Even though this is the country's largest city, it does not feel overwhelming or too big. One will be hard pressed to find any skyscrapers to spoil the view. Sure, there are those yellow cranes in places, but there really is a lot to see here. With the museums, parks, churches, and other places, there should be plenty to do in any type of weather. When I first saw Zurich, I new I would enjoy the visit here. It was a fine start to an amazing vacation.
- Pros:Not too crowded, scenic, plenty to see and do.
- Cons:Costly
- In a nutshell:Zurich has more than many people may realize.

Glad you had such a good time in Zurich (so did I) and also did your traveling around Switzerland by train. They really do have an excellent rail system with hourly (at least) connections from everywhere to everywhere else.
