When one flies in to Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, they will discover that the Dutch trains provide not only easy access to the city, but also to much of the country. Haarlem is a 15 minute train ride from Centraal Station in Amsterdam. This is the original Haarlem, the one that gives the neighborhood in New York City its name. All you need in Haarlem is your walking shoes. Within minutes, you will be at the scenic town square. It is not so busy as Amsterdam, thus it makes a wonderful day trip to do something different. We explored the Corrie Ten Boom house and the Grote Kerk. My wife also looked around at some of the shops to buy crafts and some tea. This is the type of place I would like to make a return trip. Perhaps a bicycle tour starting here and going into the countryside would be in order for the next visit. |
