| Stratford in the holiday season |
The legendary poet and playwright, William Shakespeare, has certainly put this place on the map. I suspect most people come here because this was his home. There is a lot I have to learn about the man and his works, but still it was fascinating to visit a well preserved town that offers the visitor a step back into time. This is a very good place to go around by foot. The train station is within easy distance of the major sites. There are several sites associated with Shakespeare in town and a couple outside of Stratford.
For those who would rather shop or eat, this place will be as equally appealling. I bought a couple of Christmas gifts here. No doubt, the place does get crowded in the warmer months, but the pace is much slower than the larger English cities. There is a countryside feel to Stratford, and I suggest taking a good walk here to see some of it. |
