"First ever trip in Africa was here in Niger" Niamey by Mario65

Arrival - July 12, 2004

Up to almost our landing at the Niamey airport, the only thing we could see outside was sand.

Just to say how close is Niamey from the desert.

Just to say also how vast is the desert, since this is also almost the first thing we see from the north coast of Africa on our way from Paris to Niger.

Nearly two hours flying over the desert before arriving in Niamey...at 1 000 kilometers per hour !!

Yes, it was very hot outside at our arrival but still acceptable. In Quebec, hot weather is often accompanied by high humidity making it very uncomfortable which is fortunately not the case in Niger where it is generally dry, except for short periods, just before the rain (and the strong winds that preceeds it) in the yet very acceptable rainy season.

So long Niamey ! Welcome into the bush !

That's already it for Niamey.

At 7:00 the delegate director and the 4X4 were already waiting for me to get out of my bed for our trip to the mine site, two and half hours southwest away from the capital.

That is where I would stay until my next trip back to the Niamey, 5 weeks later.
