"The Southern Scene" Otago by wkcsmt

I'll use this page to gather the bits & pieces (mainly the short stops in between destinations) that I have in this region...

Otago - the area we covered the most...
Our first night stop from West Coast was in Wanaka. We then drove to Arrowtown via Cadrona (a scenic drive), stopping @ Crown Terrace for a scenic lookout. Weather wasn't good at all as we got into Arrowtown... so only a short stop before heading down to Queenstown. After spending 2 nights, we took off to Dunedin with stops in Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra... From Dunedin, we head north towards Oamaru (remember to stop @ Moeraki Boulders!!)... follow on with our Canterbury journey...

Southland - Never been down there...perhaps one day I will, till then...

Fiordland - Only been to Milford Sound and a short stop @ Te Anau.

Central Otago

Central Otago is a region touched by history, with a powerful landscape of ancient mountains, weathered rock formations, alpine herb fields and fast rivers.

Central Otago was the scene of a gold rush. Trails used by miners can still be seen winding over the hills. Stone cottages, a haunted hotel, cleverly engineered water channels, mines and machinery are other relics to discover.
