Not so picturesque Warsaw

Gift from the Russians
Warsaw looks nothing like it did before WWII. An embarassed Hitler demolished the city following a successful uprising by brave Polish citizens/soldiers (1944). When you arrive, you'll notice all the indications of a rapidly developing EU country: neon corporate signs, skyscrapers, etc. Don't be deterred if you are looking for a historical Polish city. The history of the city is alive, if not visible. Get a WWII history guide book from a tourist center (there's one at the Western entrance to old town marked by an "i") if this interests you. I had a friend/guide who took me to these spots (now modern structures of course). Keep in mind Warsaw is making up for lost time with its modernization. Polish citizens long resisted draconian communist measures and are only now beginning to approach the quality of life they deserve. Get a tram pass as well as the city is fairly large. Before I forget, be prepared to party. Polish girls and guys know how to have fun. You have no excuse for staying in at night, even in the dead of Winter.

Pros:"Great restaurants. Great nightlife. Historical sites (though not historical looking)."
Cons:"The traveler expecting an old city will be disappointed. Grey and gloomy in the Winter (I enjoyed this for some reason)"
In A Nutshell:"A glimpse into 21st century Poland. All the accoutraments of a modern city. Great place to spend a couple of nights before taking the obligatory trip to Krakow."
