Despite being a relatively new establishment, Dave's Straw Hat Inn has already earned itself a glowing reputation for providing reasonably priced accommodation at a very high standard. Depending on the room-rate, facilities can include hot and cold water, telephone, private security box, aircon or fan and cable TV, and the Inn offers free use of their outdoor cooking facilities. Guests also have access to the internet.
Unique Qualities: Dave and Janet are already well known for looking after their guests like members of the family - the resort is small and cosy, and this gives it a friendly, personal feel. Although it is not actually situated on the beach front, it's less than a minute's walk away, in a good location. The cottages are attractive, and set in a pretty garden.

Isla Gecko: Station 2 on a Budget

Isla Gecko is located relatively close to boat station 2, so if you want to be in the middle of the party zone without spending a fortune on accomodation, this is the place for you. There are only 10 rooms, and this gives the resort a friendly, homey atmosphere. Isla Gecko is just a short walk from the beach and the main shopping, nightlife & dining areas, and has a small garden, bar and restaurant.
Unique Qualities: If you book through an agency, the prices start at P1500, but you may be able to get a better rate by booking directly. All rooms have a safety deposit box. Cable TV and air-conditioning are optional.

Although it is top of the price range in Boracay, Fridays is a beautifully designed resort, in keeping with the native architecture. The standard of service is excellent, and the location is one of the best on White Beach. I haven't stayed there personally, but I visit every so often to enjoy the surroundings and enjoy a sunset cocktail at happy hour. Beware of the Friday's Punch!
Unique Qualities: Fridays has a pool (though the sea is calm, and much nicer for swimming), an outstanding restaurant, and all the facilities you would expect to find in a luxury hotel, including:
Pool Table, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball & Badminton, Inhouse Library, Snorkeling equipment hire, Kayak, Hobie Cat & Paddle Boats, Boating and fishing trips, Sunset cruises, Massage.

Angol Point: Peaceful Native Cottages

Angol Point resort has large, native style cottages/nipa huts in a lovely peaceful garden setting, just footsteps from the beach. The unusual, hexagonal cottages are made from bamboo, with traditional thatched roofs and wooden floors. Located in Angol (a couple of minutes walk south of boat station 3), this place is suitable for those who are looking for real rest and relaxation - away from the party zone and crowded areas. Facilities are basic (no hot water) but this is still one of my favourite places on the island. Rooms cost around P2400 per night during high season and as little as P100o during off-peak.
