The Island of Bute
Situated on the Firth of Clyde and surounded by the Kyles of Bute is the island of Bute, a beautifull island with majestic seascapes and lovely rolling hills. Bute is only about 12 miles long and never more than two miles wide yet the scenery here is as varied as any you can find on the mainland. seals abound around the coast, indeed in some places they are so unafraid you can get to within feet of them before they will move away. The main town, indeed the only town is Rothsay, and during the summer the public gardens along the sea front are a mass of colour, the gulf stream giving the gardens just that little extra and allows palm trees to flourish among the begonias. Bute is a beautifull island and it well worth visiting. You can travel to Bute by ferry from Greenock, or take the shorter crossing from Colintave Again, as with all of Argyll, bring your camera. I think the best month to visit is May. Springtime on the west coast of Scotland has always been a special time for me. |

uglyscot Tue Jan 20, 2009 06:21 UTC I really must try to reach this part of Scotland. It looks lovely, and a bit like my own corner with the beach. |
