The Temple of Amon - Ra Luxor

I had wanted to visit Luxor ever since I was about five years old, but it wasn't untill January 2005 that I was able to fulfill my dream. Luxor always brought to my mind visions of temples and tombs, the river Nile and fallucas, women dressed in black and dark skinned men in turbans ready to cut your throat for your camera, Well..... Luxor is a modern city,it's true the back streets are a bit scruffy and some of the older buildings could do with a lick of paint but the temples are there and the fallucas are there on the Nile, and not far away there are tombs a-plenty. The women are dressed in black but the dark skinned men in turbans never tried to cut my throat, indeed apart from trying to part me from my money with offers of "Kaliesh ride", "Boat ride banana island", "Taxi ride", "I take you Nubian Village", "Nice papyrus, very good price" there was never anything to fear. I had read about holidays in Luxor in the V.T. guide and with the help of the various tips my holiday was a great sucess. the best I ever had, so much so I am intending to go again next year although we may rent a flat next time as eating out is so cheap. We found the people extremely helpfull although a little exuberant when trying to part you from your cash. When you think how much you paid for your holiday, or how much you paid for the camera hanging around your neck, while they live on for a week what we would happily spend on a good meal it's not suprising they look on you as being filthy rich, which compared to them you are. The first place we visited was the "Luxor Temple" of Amun - Ra. We got there early in the morning, before the excursion buses arrived but it wasn't early enough to get a photograph of the Great Pylon (main entrance) in the sun which was a shame because the two huge statues or collossi would have looked even more impressive, so get there early for that "special" shot. A wide angle lens is very usefull here as it is difficult to get into a good position because everything is so big.
