Andy and I got stupid!

This was a blinder of a trip, much needed following a terrible spring and my imminent departure for Korea. 4 days in his dads apartment drinking fine wine and eating well.
The journey down was fairly un-eventful even with a nights stay in London to catch up with the old gang. Arriving at Stansted with stinking hangovers, we headed off to Collioure.
After renting a car, we found the house and commenced boozing, basically we didnt stop for 4 days, even in the car! No picture of that though.
Collioure has some great sites, the Chateau on the hill dates back to Moors, there are some great walks around the town and the vineyards, with the goblet trained vines are a joy to see.
Bar wise, you have look hard but down around the harbour are some cracking places with really friendly staff and potent drinks. Word of advice one bottle of Banyuls is enough for 2 people, more than that is just plain stupid!

We spent a few mornings sitting down here, wathcign the world go by and enjoying a Cafe au Lait! Big ashtrays for those Gallic smokers, so our mornings were sorted. Also given that it was the Mayday weekend, it was also a perfect place to scope the new "talent" arriving in town.

Booze - the essence of the trip

Collioure, is a well hidden little corner of France, and when I say corner I am not exaggerating, its a 6 minute drive from the Spanish border (more of that in my tips!).
It is also a little-known centre of wine production. Producing slightly sweeter grapes the wine here is not for everyone, but take in the vineyards, as they provide an intersting stroll and learn a little of how traditonal hillside viticulture is still carried out in this beautiful region of France.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Quiet, cheap, easy to get to & very close to Spain
  • Cons:Quite quiet if you are nto there at the right time.
  • In a nutshell:Perfect, bring a book or your paints!

Just spotted this. We have crossed into Spain, Cebere -San Bou, numerous times in last 10 years, most recent 12/3/2007. Never any problem.
