There's Something Cool About Summer Snowboarding! We left Stuttgart around 530 a.m. in the hopes of getting to Hintertux before lunch. Unfortunately, we were so busy talking and laughing on the way up, we missed our turn off and spent an extra two hours or so trying to get there. Once we got there, though, it was a little odd. There we were, standing at the base of a mountain with green grass and people wearing shorts and t-shirts all around us...and WE were going snowboarding? Sure there were lots of people there with skis and snowboards, so we must have been in the right place!
As we got our gear and hit the lifts...it just didn't seem right. As we looked down from the lifts, there was grass, happy cows with bells, and jagged rock as far as the eye could see, but know snow. There were some narrow grooves in the mountains with a little ice glinting from them, but I knew I wasn't gonna be snowboarding there! After riding three lifts to get to the top, it was like some fantasy...all of a sudden, there was SNOW EVERYWHERE!
Now, I'm a southern boy and I don't like to be cold, but THIS was the coolest thing I've seen...well, since the World Cup at least! I'm not a great snowboarder (having only done it one other time at Winter Park), so I spent a great deal of time on my butt. I had LOTS of practice getting up if you know what I mean! But it was fantastic! |
