Every weekend i would ride my bicycle to the markets to sell my wares.
I spent the last week with Eve sitting on her beautiful wooden verandah beading, listening to wind chimes and the sweet sound of the valley that completely surround us. It is my favourite time of day, when the Currawong birds begin to call out across the hollow lowlands.
Eve comes back with tea and metions that she has an old caravan down on the bottom edge of her property that she no longer uses but just stores all the rave and dance party gear in
. We walk down through the thick bush with scissors and a knife.
Inside the caravan we cut all the copper wire out of the roof and make mass budles of it. i put it in a basket. We walk back up to the house that Eve shares with her partner and 3 boys who are now coming home from school after walking the dusty trail from the local school bus stop. AFter settling them down we get the green tea flowing, and sit there for hours and strip all the wire, which in turn we use for making jewlery.
We are getting quite a store here and are selling all sorts of things. The boys even love to join in a help, but get bored pretty quickly and adventure off to ride their horses.
I put down the beading for a while and Eve helps me to build a small outseide fire in which i bring out the dying pot to dye some clothing. I love dying clothes and cutting them up and adding bits here and there and beading intricate patterns onto the hems. I spend hours just making and creating.
We make hand made soaps and candles, we roll incense, and hand made note books. And while doing all this we are talking and laughing and take endless breaks to run down to the waterhole and emerge into the deep depths. We even see a Platypus!
What To Buy: Again somethig a little different although im sure you have all experienced the market vibe!
I love these markets and i have been to them all. My absolute favourite without a doubt, is The Channon Markets. Its a journey to get there but so well worth the experience. It all starts the moment you get in the car. You will winde thru glorious country side and pop out at The Channon Village.
You can buy the YUMMIEST food from all over the world, chill out in the chai tent and listen to live music, theres street performers, lots of gifts to buy..... oh i love it!!
What To Pay: Oh...you could spend $10 - $10 000, there is so much to buy!
Some thigns may seem expensive, but really its not. For most of the locals this is their only income. The people that sell wares at the markets have so much talent.
Theres something for everyone!
