It was first called the Cathedral of Saint Louis, King of France when it was built in 1720. Flanked by Cabildo and Presbytere, it is situated in the Jackson Square facing the Mississippi River. Jackson Square was then known as Plaza d’Armas and was a place where military parades were occasionally held before it became a market.

The first of the Spanish apartments built in New Orleans. It no longer function as apartments but transformed into aplenty of shops for tourists. Ranging from gift shops, fortune teller and cafe. Outside Pontalba in front of the Park, Jazz street musicians and souvenir vendors littered the Square.

A prominent monument in New Orleans is the statue of Andrew Jackson on his horse in the centre of Jackson Square. In 1812, Major-General Andrew Jackson defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans. Later in 1832, he became the President of United States.

The Park is right in the middle of Jackson Square. It is well maintained and is closed after dark. The Cannon on exhibit was used in the Civil War.

The old and humble building and the mime artist made a beautiful picture on a hot summer day. It felt nostalgic and put one into a retrospective mood.

It is romantic to spend the evening sight seeing the French Quarters on a buggy. We couldn’t help but notice that the designs of wrought iron railings are uniquely different on every balcony.

However, I imagine it will not be long before the French Quarter and Garden District are back in action.
