Melbourne: Lifestyle of a Bourgeoisie

Like A Debutante

Lunch hour rush in Melbourne
We were introduced to Melbourne on a quiet, cold and windy night. Driving around, we noticed Gothic structures blended into modernisation. It did leave us feeling a little eerie over the night. By morning we took off on foot to discover the “Paris end” of Melbourne on Spring Street. The night has misrepresented Melbourne! This is a charming city. Very elegant with sophisticated people. The city is well planned with gardens and parks, free trams, shopping and business districts built in the same vicinity and monuments dotted everywhere. Enough said, living in Melbourne is decadent (in a good way)!
In the countryside Sydney-Melbourne

Enroute Sydney-Melbourne

We entered Melbourne by car after a 10-hour drive from Sydney. We rented a fully automated Audi from Avis in King’s Cross. The speed limit was 110 km/h or risk being summoned by traffic police! As we left Sydney and approached Melbourne, the yellow countryside became greener. It was springtime, the temperature was cooler than Sydney at about 16 degrees.

Our first stop was for lunch at Mc Donald along the way. By the evening we reached Halsbrook, visited a Navy Museum and bought some drinks at a grocery store. We reached Melbourne at around 8.30pm and desperately looked for a place to have dinner. Luckily, an Indonesian restaurant was still open and placed a last order.

The temperature dropped and windy by 9.00pm and our fingers were icy cold as we walked on the street to the car. We took one last spin around the city center and could not help thinking how Gothic it looked at night. The next three days were spent just walking around, shopping, driving to the bay, meeting friends for lunch and visiting them at their homes and offices.

Leaving was hard, for obvious reasons. Hope to return someday.
