Tayport - Ferryport on Craig
Tayport, Fife was formerly known as Ferryport on Craig. It's now largely a dormitory town for people working in the City of Dundee, across the River Tay - accessed by the Tay Road Bridge or elsewhere in Fife. Historically, in pre-victorian times a town where many of the houses were built by wealthy ship owners or merchants. Many of these were involved in Dundee's Jute fibre industries (trade from India) and a textile firm is the town's largest single employer.
Pros and Cons
- Pros:Still has a 'small town' identity and character.
- Cons:Lack of shops and facilities due to close proximity of Dundee
