This place and it's surrounding is a must-see when you visit Paris. Notre Dame, one of the most famous Cathedral in the world, is right across the bridge of River Seine. ( if you are on the opposite bank of course ) The architecture is just magnificent! Bring a water bottle along because on the street opposite Notre Dame is a water fountain to refill your water supply, although on a given summer day, there is usually a small line. There are tons of nice restaurants in the surrounding area, and another cathedral nearby. Great place to take pictures of Paris's grandeur!

This magnificent Arc, much imitated around the world, stands at the end of Champs Elysee, and has numerous intricate carvings that tells a beautiful story, if you can read French or if you sign up for a tour. On normal day in the summer ( tourist season ), you can see many tourist hanging around the area admiring the arc, and photographers taking pictures of it. If you sign up for the tour, you can actually go into the arc, if not you can still admire it from outside, which I think is good enough.

This majestic yet modernistic structure houses the Museum of Modern Art, Paris' s Public Library ( one of the few places with free internet, although the wait is long and you need to sign up beforehand ) and other things I don't know about :) You can't see the library from this picture because the library entrance is on the other side. You can't get into the museum unless you pay, but there is an exhibition hall which you can go check out for free.

This New York's 5th-avenue equivalent is not only similar in structure but similar in cleanliness. I am surprised, given the high-class boutiques that "littered" this long avenue, how hard it is to find a trashcan long the entire street. I walked and walked and couldn't find one. I guess that's why plenty of people leave their trash by the roadside, on the handrails of subway stairways etc. It's worth walking down this street just to check out the ostentatious architecture of some stores, and of course the Arc of Triumph at the end of the avenue. There is also a Tourist Information office near the Arc of Triumph.

This magnificent space is surrounded by some grand architecture, and is the perfect place to hang out or people-watch on a cool breezy day. This wide open space has practically no shelters nor benches to sit on. On a sunny day, it will be nice to get a splash of cool water if you walk near the fountain in the middle of the square. At any given time, there are alot of tourist taking pictures by the fountain...it is intricately designed, as is almost everything in Paris. The Egyptian Obelisk is one of the tallest I have seen, and unless you understand French or Egyptian writing, I don't quite remember seeing any English translation or description near it. It would help to read up about it if you want to learn more :)

At night, a short walk up the hill in Montmarte ( or you can take a Funicular up ), you can get a fairly decent night view of Paris. I have to admit, it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be. The Sacre Coeur itself projected an eerie glow which could be a bit scary for a lone female traveller at almost midnight :) The Eiffel Tower is only a small speck pretty far away, and I couldn't say I can identify other buildings from up there. A really nice place to hang out or people-watch any time of the day. Although I have yet to witness sunset from the top of this hill, I imagine it will be the best time to go since you get to see Paris in the day and also notice buildings lighting up at night.
