This is everything you would expect in an Alpine hotel. Friendly, helpful staff - and very knowledgeable about their village. Dark, heavy, intricately carved wood panels the room - even the ceiling! There is a big skylight in the bath (top floor). Huge balcony with a PERFECT view - on one of the most famous mountains in the world! There are also big heavy clunky keys (which always makes me think of Europe). These keys you of course leave at the front desk key-holder. One note on these key-holders - I've seen this sort in a few hotels in Switzerland now, and I think they are ingenious. You put the room key in its slot, and turn it, which locks it and allows you to take the bottom key, for the front door, with you. The breakfast room is also uniquely Swiss. Beautiful carved wood (light, this time) adorns every inch of the walls and ceilings. Of course you must have muesli for breakfast! and hot chocolate.
