Gelato is my downfall. You won't find it this good in the US so you must get your quota on your trip to Italy. This means 3 times a day. It's rough, but you can do it! And since you will be walking a lot there is no need to think about the old joke ,"would you like to eat that or apply it directly to your thighs?"

Gelato is usually made with eggs and whole milk and sugar and of course fruit or chocolate (or nuts, etc.). It is soooooooo creamy!

The way to tell if they are using fresh and true ingredients: look at the banana gelato on offer. The places which you can rely on for the real thing will not have bright yellow banana gelato. This color will mean it came from a bottle of extract! What you want to see is the color you will see a real banana turn quickly after exposure to oxygen - kinda grey-cream mottled. You want it to look like there are actually bananas in it, in other words. In a pinch, eat whatever you can find, but if you want the best quality, this is one way to tell.
