I can't believe for all the times I have been to Europe (about 2 dozen times now) my first trip to Rome was November 2004.
I was amazed at the reach of the Roman Empire. I knew about the UK, since I had even walked on Hadrian's wall, but wasn't aware of its reach in Africa for instance. There are a series of murals near the Colosseum that I covet but to date have not found in print yet. (and my photos of it are dreadful).

and June 2007, I am back from trip number 3 to Bella Roma.
- Pros:The antiquity preserved here. The amazing shopping!
- Cons:I weep at the thought the Colosseum was nearly destroyed by plundering
