Rotorua is home of the Te Arawa Maoris. (rhymes with Wow-ee). Unless you are a vegetarian, you are sure to like the hangi - they wrap meat in linens and bury it in an underground fire pit for several hours.
Rotorua is has a great deal of geothermal activity as it's on a fault line. (New Zealand seems to be one big fault line). It makes the town a wee bit smelly.
Some activities we tried while there:
Zorbing, Scree jumping at the dormant volcano Mt. Tarawera, and luging! All are the most fun I've had with clothes on. |
