Rocklin, California is situated in the beginning of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, California. It is contiguous now, with Roseville, California which is to the southwest. Situated along Interstate 80, it is a wonderful "bedroom community" with a current population of 56,109. The city's population grew 54 percent from 2000-2010. Rocklin has grown faster than Placer County and the Sacramento region. Rocklin's population is projected to grow at a faster rate than the County and the Sacramento region over the next five years with a projected growth rate of 13 percent.

The schools in Rocklin are excellent. They are organized around K-6, 7-8, and High School. There are 2 high schools, both relatively new, Rocklin High and Whitney High School.

The city has at least 2 golf courses, Whitney Oaks and Sunset Whitney.

The area is considered a good place to retire. There is the retirement community, Whitney Oaks, in Rocklin. Nearby in Roseville and Lincoln, there are large Del Webb Sun Cities.

Rocklin had two claims to fame in the past. It was the major hub for the transcontinental railroads, with large rail yards. It also was home to quarries which supplied granite to many of the buildings built in the 1800's and early 1900's.
