  • Don't forget do visit the islet "Isla de Lobos" being on Fuertevenutra. You can go there on your own. The access to the island is very easy. There are ferries from Corralejo.
About ferry connecions you can read in my transportation tip".

The island is small and very easy to walk. There are sighned paths. 4 hours are enough to circle the whole island. After disembarking you can turn left or right. I turned right. If you turn right you pass by el Puertito - a settlement with a couple of fisher's houses. After 20 minutes you will reach las Lagunitas - salt meadows with unique flora. The path leads to a modern light house in the North of the island (1 hour).
You can take a short break and admire marvelous views. The neighbouring island of Lanzarote is very good visible. To the next interesting point are about 50 minutes. Going back you should climbe the mountain (Montana de la Caldera 127 m.) From the summit you can see both islands: Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. If you are a bird watcher the Montana de la Caldera is the best point to watch the sea gulls.
If you have enought time you can take bath at the playa de la Concha. (Shell Beach).
There is a small restaurant on the island but I didn't visit it because I wanted to enjoy the beauty of the nature.
It is resonable to start with climbing la Montana de la Caldera in the summer time.
    Take enough water.

    Things To Do: Las Salinas
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's a very easy walk from Playa del Castillo to Las Salinas. It takes about 1 hour to reach las Salinas-Fuerteventura Salt Pans.
If you are lucky you can watch some men working on the pans gathering and packing the salt. The water in the pans is rosy. Interesting but I was not able to find it out.
A Salt Museum can give you some more information about the salt gathering.. If you're interested in the salt gathering you should not miss it.
There is another attraction as well: a skeleton of a whale that beached here.

  • If you like a little bit to be adventurous you can cycle from El Castillo via Las Salinas to Pozo Negro. The trip was not extremely hard but there are so many roads or paths leading towards Pozo Negro. You don't know which one you should take in order not to be lost. The landscape is very poor. You can only see stones, goats, a couple of palms and the dark blue Ocean. I was in January there and it was warm but I can not imagine going there in the summer. I enjoyed the tripin the moon landscape very much.
I reached Pozo Negor after 3 hours of cycling. Pozo Negro is a small fisher settlement with two restaurants where you can eat fresh fish.
I took the roads FV 420 and FV 2 going back to Caleta de Fustes. Going back you can see la Atalayita - an old Canary Settelment with some stone houses.

    Things To Do: Tiscamanita
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tiscamanita is a nice small village. The main point of interests is a windmill. If you are windmill freak you can have a look inside. Some interesting snapshots of village houses and landscape can be made here.

Things To Do: Volcanoes tour -12 km
  • Tip Rating:
  • The tour starts in Lajares and finishes in Coralejo. You will realy enjoty the tour. It is very easy because of the prepared walking paths. Its not easy to exit Lajares. Ask for a closed camel station that lies at the road to Majanicho. If you find the camel station the path starts on your right hand site. Follow the path. You will see the redish Montana Colorada which you pass by. You will come to the point where the paths cross. Ignore that and keep going stright ahead. After about one hour of walking you reach the crater of Calderon Hondo. The path leads to the top. Awsome views from the crater. You will see a reconstracted shepheherd shelter you can visit. If you want to keep going to Coralejo you have to return to the point where the paths crossed and go to the left. After two and half hours you reach the crater of Bayuyo. The path becomes a bright road. If you will follow the road you reach Coralejo after 4 hours of walking.

Things To Do: A nice walking path from Betancuria to Antigua.

  • It is a very easy walk. You can start in Antigua or in Betancuria. The bus connections to Bentacuria are very bad therefore it is reasonable to go first to Bentacuria and hike to Antigua. It takes about 2 hours to cover the route. The distance between the villages is 5,5 km. The route is called Camino Real (King's Road). My guide book sais that thousends of people go on the pilgrimage from Antigua to Rio Palmas via Camino Real on third Suterday in September. It could be an interesting event. If you start in Betancuria the way up is shorter. The views from Degollada de la Villa are amazing.

The bus Nr 2 from Puerto del Rosario to Betancuria: 11.00 (Monday to Saturday), 14.30

Things To Do: Wind mills and and Skansen Museum of Tefia
  • Tip Rating:
  • You should pay visit to Tefia. There are some points of interests.
If you like to be acquainted with the traditional village architekture you should visit the Skansen Museum. There are some houses equiped with old furniture. To make the museum more attractiv there are organised some life shows. You can watch the people working on fields. It was very funny to watch two men "working" with dunkies but the dunkies didn't feel like to work. The men weren't able to lead the dunkies correctly.
There are two lovely windmills in Tefia. Don't miss them.

  • There is a nice walk from the city of Corralejo to the Dunes. Keep to the shore leaving Corralejo. It takes about 1 hour to get there by foot. The yellow-white sand dunes and the crystal blue ocean make this place perfekt for sunbathing. The dunes an beaches are an excellent attraction in themselves, with plenty of room for everyone.

Things To Do: Beach walking - 18 km
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's a very nice walk from Jandia to Costa Calma or the other way round. I started in Jandia and it was a good choice because my eyes were not blinded by the sun. The walk was very nice. You need about 6 hours to reach your destination. Take enough water. It could be very hot and there is no shadow. You will pass some little resorts where you can drink a cup of coffee or eat something. The walk can get longer if you are not able to resist the clear blue waters of the Ocean.

Things To Do: If you like hiking .....
  • Tip Rating:
  • Isla de Fuerteventura - a lighthouse close to el Cotillo
  • a lighthouse close to el Cotillo
  • by wroclawiak , 4 more photos
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • hike from El Cotillo to Corralejo. The distance - 23 km.
The tour itself is long but you can rent a bike in Corralejo and cycle to El Cotillo or to Majanicho. I started in El Cotillo because I wanted to walk. I covered the distance in 6 hours. It is a good idea to start the tour form el Cotillo because of poor bus connections with other parts of the island.

El Cotillo is a very nice village lying on the rocks that were hit by furious waves. After visiting el Cotillio I walked towards a light house. If you keep close to the shore you won't miss it. I reached the lighthouse after 1and half hour of hiking. Keep going close to the shore and you find a nice track that leads you from the lighthouse (Faro deTostón) to Corralejo.
The landscape is splendid. There are some nice bays where you can safe swim. After 4 hours you will reach a nice village of Majanicho. Majanicho is a place that gets alive on weekends. I didn't see any restaurant or shop there. The distance from Majanicho to Corralejo you should cover in two hours.
Remember. There is no tree or any palm. In the sommer could be very very hot. Take good shoes and enough water and food.

As usual your photos are excellent: I especially love the dunes and Las Playitas. Isn't travelling to warm places during Polish winter a wonderful thing? I wish I could afford it every year. Pozdrowienia
