Street vendors and hawkers: delicious buns for anytime of the day
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Street vendors and hawkers

A stall located near the old chow yang restaurant, this "makan place" holds very well on its own... waiting time can be a killer, but the food is well worth the time... many restaurant customers nearby always place an order first, as waiting can take up to 15 minutes, as the buns are prepared on the spot.. opening time is very limited though, open for breakfast about 8-10 i think, and dinner, about 8 till the vendor is satisfied...

Favorite Dish: the bun with the red paste or as locals would call it, "Ham Chim Peng", but there are other choices too, such as the long, lightly fried bun known as the la cha kwai, commonly eaten with congee/porridge. other choices include bun with rice fillings, and bun with no fillings... prices are 60 cents which is equivalent to about 30 us cents.

    Nasi Kandar: yummy local food
  • Tip Rating:

  • Restaurant Name: Nasi Kandar

abs. famous, even patronised by the prominent former prime minister, Datuk Mahatir if i correctly recall, the restaurant had expanded, with a new location, and also by increasing the choices of food. a very famous landmark in Petaling Jaya, though this place should be avoided during pasar mlm/ night market on thurs i think.

Favorite Dish: everything... basically they offer several coices, from curry to vegetables, accompanied with spices, fragranted rice cooked with coconut milk i think, and so forth... can be quite pricey but yet very worthwile... try and avoid seafood as they tend to be at a higher price range on the menu.. otherwise, you really can't go wrong with picking and choosing different combinations to go with your rice... another must is Teh-tarik... yummy!

this is a must, if you drop by Petaling Jaya near the Taman Jaya Putra-LRT station. Located at the fomer Chow Yang restautrant, it is the front stall.. the chicken is cooked on the spot, therefore, don't expect on the spot meal. Often served with sliced boiled eggs, with sambal*a sort of chili*, and coconut-milk cooked rice. An additional plus is when it's served with banana leaves... WOAH! can't go wrong with it... the few downsides to it is the spicy flavor to those unaccostumed to such flavor

Favorite Dish: The fried chicken with sambal... really can't compare.

the street vendor near the playground: malaysian desserts

a stall operated opposite the next LRT station after Kelana Jaya, a person can find the customary desserts of Cendol, and rojak. Customers can either "taupau"/pack it, or have it on the spot.

Favorite Dish: the cendol... though most would say the rojak... very sweet, and yummy, the cendol is served ice-cold with ice-shavings, and i believe, milk... im not exactly sure what the green-stuff is, but i think its the cendol.. don't miss it, if you pass by the area. And rojak is basically random things that are mixed together with a sauce. Some have peanuts in it, though i believe you can "customise" it.
