Kuala Lumpur was the capitol until the the change of political hq to Putrajaya. Located a 30 min drive from Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur has plenty of attractions for tourists. With the recent additions of LRT and i believe, a metro, public transportation has become popular, especially during peak hours, seeing as how traffic in Kuala Lumpur isn't the top favorite things of Kuala Lumpurians. Most hotels offer shuttle services, so be sure to check with your hotel in advance before making plans. Taxis are a common form of transportation, though beware of taxis drivers who don't run on meters. I believe this is a major risk that most travellers and locals run, but be sure to negotiate with your driver even if he doesn't offer a meter reading.
