Sligo has changed so much in the past 15 yrs. It has been transformed into a busy tourist town.
On your way into Sligo county from Galway/Mayo direction I recommend The Yeats Hotel for meals. Sligo itself is very busy, and this hotel is quiet with fast service and good food. On the Northern side of Sligo there is The Yeat's Tarven which also has a great name for food. It is located 2-3 miles from town beside the church where Yeats is buried so it's pretty busy with tour buses etc.

A taste of W.B.Yeats, County Sligo........
The Lake Isle of Innisfree"

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee,
And live alone in the bee loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

Visitors to the North West region enter an area of outstanding literary and artistic connection.
Ireland's most famous literary son W.B. Yeats, winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize for literature, and his brother, the internationally renowned artist, Jack Butler Yeats, lived in Sligo.
The Yeats country tour was established to commerate the 50th anniverary of his death. He died in 1939. It is a fully signposted 170km route encompassing much of North Sligo, and a part of Litrim. Among the areas it includes are Mullaghmore, Lissadell, Rosses Point, Glencar, Lough Gill and Innisfree. This drive takes in wonderful scenery and allows visitors to see the places which inspired this family.
